Robert Juniper

Robert Litchfield Juniper (1929 – 2012) was an Australian artist, art teacher, illustrator, painter, printmaker, and sculptor. He was born in Merredin, Western Australia, and studied in England before returning to Western Australia to teach and exhibit his work. Juniper was a long-term resident of Darlington and involved with the Darlington Arts Festival. He taught at several schools in Perth in the 1950s and 1960s. Juniper's works are held in numerous collections, including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Queensland Art Gallery and Parliament House, Canberra. He had many solo and group exhibitions throughout Australia and overseas, including a major retrospective in 1999 at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. Juniper continued to paint regularly until shortly before his death at the age of 83. He was commissioned to work on a feature window in the restored Bunbury Catholic Cathedral, which was completed in 2011. He died at his Darlington home in December 2012. Juniper received several awards for his work, including the State Living Treasures Award and the Order of Australia.
